For maximum efficiency that reduces overhead cost, kitting & multi-pack promotional packaging can be handled by the right warehouse, distribution, and order fulfillment partner. When product manufacturers have multiple related products, there’s a need to sell each product individually under its own SKU and group products into either a bundle or kit as a new single item with its own SKU label.

When 3PL Lacks Flexibility, MSL Provides a Solution

When working with large third-party logistics (3PL) companies, there’s inevitably a lack of flexibility in kitting and assembly services. Many of the bigger 3PL providers are unable to respond in an agile manner to client needs, resulting in a poor experience and a layered chain of inefficient communication. We’ve developed an area of expertise in this niche, converting multiple items into a finished kit while providing top of class customer service and  a clear line of communication.

3PL companies that offer kitting packaging services will inevitably claim they’re “value-added services”—because it’s not at the core of what they do. At MSL, we’ve made responsive secondary promotional packaging services the heart of what we do, instead of an afterthought service. It’s our Core Competency.

Where the Kits and Bundles Go from MSL: Who We Serve

The kind of client customers we find ourselves working with at MSL are those who need a mix of final destinations: Brick-and-Mortar Retailers, Online Marketplaces, and direct/business to consumers ecommerce.

Large Brick-and-Mortar Retailers:

Target, Walmart, BJs, Costco, Lowes, Home Depot,

Online Marketplaces:

Amazon.com, Wayfair, eBay, WalMart.com

Consumers:

E-commerce orders fulfilled and shipped directly to consumers through shopping cart API integration. Big Commerce, Woo Commerce, Shopify, Magento, TrueCommerce

Our clients and brands rely on MSL  to fulfill multi-channel needs—on the shelves of Costco, made available through Amazon.com and ordered directly by consumers through the company’s website. Ensuring the various kits and bundles are assembled to each brand’s channel specifications is a core focus of MSL

The Advantage of Kitting versus Pick-and-Pack: Efficiency and Accuracy

Pick-and-pack is a good strategy for fulfilling orders of unrelated products, but it doesn’t work as efficiently for promotional kits and bundles or related items purchased together. When a product manufacturer needs related products to be packaged together, whether it’s a blister pack or a boxed set for promotional purposes, MSL’s expertise is in providing flexible, rapid-response secondary packaging services to meet those needs. Our cost is kept lower than other providers who offer kitting only as a value-added service. We’ve developed a production and assembly line focused process with flexibility and efficiency as a focus for fulfilled order processing.

Kitting, Bundling, and Assembly: What These Terms Mean at MSL

Kitting, bundling, and assembly are often used interchangeably, but they each have a distinct definition at MSL.

This is when we assemble a “kit” (often in a box) of multiple related products, which can be a standard way of selling the related products or also for custom marketing promotions.

A “bundle” is typically a multipack of the same product, or multiple related products and are bundled together through shrink wrapping.

As the name implies, this involves putting something together, such as assembling point-of-sale (POS) or point-of-purchase displays to be sent out for subsequent setting up in multiple retail outlets.

Our ability to do all three—and combination processes among the three—is something that sets MSL apart from other providers.
